Preparing your documents correctly is the most important step for a smooth passport appointment. Please follow this guide carefully to ensure your file is 100% compliant.
1. The New Aadhaar Card Rule (MANDATORY)
This is a new, strict requirement from the passport office. Regular hard copies, old photocopies, or small PVC/smart cards will no longer be accepted.
You must provide a digital e-Aadhaar with a verified signature. Please follow this 3-step process before your appointment:
- Download: Go to the official UIDAI website to download your e-Aadhaar PDF:
https://uidai.gov.in/en/my-aadhaar/get-aadhaar.html- Verify Signature:
- Open the downloaded PDF file using Adobe Acrobat Reader (on a computer, not your phone's browser).
- When you open it, you will see a signature with a question mark (?). You must validate this until it shows a green tick (✅) and says "Signature valid."
- If you need help, follow this simple video guide:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARZQXxmRbEw - Print:
- Take a clear, full-page printout of this fully verified e-Aadhaar (the one with the green tick). This is the only version the passport office will accept.
2. Originals are Mandatory
You must carry all your original documents to the appointment.
- Rule: At the PSK, an officer will physically inspect every original document (e.g., your original 10th Marksheet, original PAN card).
- What Happens: The officer will scan your originals and return them to you immediately after verification.
- Warning: If you are missing even one original document, your application will be put on hold or rejected.
3. Clear Copies vs. "True Copies" (Self-Attest Only)
This is a common point of confusion. The PSK does not accept "True Copies" (photocopies notarized or attested by a bank manager or lawyer). They require "Self-Attested" copies.
- What You Need: One clear, readable photocopy set of all your original documents (including your newly verified e-Aadhaar).
- What "Self-Attested" Means: You, the applicant, must personally sign your own signature (in blue or black ink) on the bottom of each photocopy page.
- Do Not: Do not get your copies stamped or signed by any other authority.
