- Sufficient funds — enough money to support yourself during your stay without working
- Good character — no substantial criminal record; you may need to provide a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) from Passport Seva Kendra
- Good health — meet Australia's health requirements; medical exam may be requested by case officer
- No outstanding debts to Australian Government — any previous visa-related debts must be repaid
- No previous visa cancellations or refusals — if you've had an Australian visa cancelled or application refused, you may face additional scrutiny or be ineligible
- Adequate health insurance — may be required as a visa condition (Condition 8501)
- Not a holder of Subclass 771 or 600 with 8503 condition — if your current visa has a "No Further Stay" condition, you cannot apply onshore

- No ETA/eVisitor for Indians — Indian passport holders must apply for the full Subclass 600 visa. The faster ETA (601) and eVisitor (651) are not available for Indian nationals.
- Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) — You must demonstrate genuine intent to visit temporarily and return to India. The case officer assesses your immigration history, ties to home country, and circumstances in Australia.
- No Work Allowed (Condition 8101) — You cannot work, freelance, or do paid activities in Australia on this visa. Breach can lead to visa cancellation and future entry bans.
- Limited Study (Condition 8201) — You may study or train for up to 3 months only.
- Health Insurance — While not always mandatory, the Department may impose Condition 8501 requiring adequate health insurance for your entire stay. Get OVHC before travel.
- Apply Early — Do not book non-refundable flights before receiving your visa grant. Apply at least 4–6 weeks before your travel date.
- Electronic Visa — There is no visa sticker or stamp. Your visa is linked to your passport number electronically. Carry your grant notification letter while travelling.
