CRS score calculator

The Comprehensive Ranking System scores a profile out of 1,200: up to 600 points for core human capital (age, education, official language ability and Canadian work experience), up to 40 for an accompanying spouse's factors, up to 100 for skill transferability, meaning combinations of education, foreign work, language and Canadian experience, and up to 600 in additional points, of which a provincial nomination alone is worth 600. Points for a job offer were removed on 25 March 2025 and no longer count toward any part of the score. Two features of that structure decide most outcomes. Language ability appears in three of the four blocks rather than one, which is why it moves a score further than anything else you can change. And the 600 points a provincial nomination carries are worth more than every other factor combined, which is why a nomination changes the arithmetic entirely.

There is no single pass mark for the CRS, and any figure quoted as one is somebody's guess at a moving target. In the twelve months to 15 Sept 2026, cut-offs in non-provincial rounds ranged from 169 to 534, which is a spread wide enough that a score can be comfortable in one month and hopeless in another. Category-based rounds for French-language ability, healthcare, trades, education and others routinely draw far below the general cut-off, so a candidate who qualifies for a category needs a much lower score than one who does not. That is the single most useful thing to work out about your own profile, because it changes the target more than any amount of preparation will. The most recent round, number 443 on 15 Sept 2026, cut off at 519. The rounds this page draws on are the real ones, published by IRCC, rather than a target somebody quoted.

Three causes account for most disappointing CRS scores, and all three are structural rather than mistakes. Skill transferability is paid on your lowest language ability, not your average, so one weak writing or speaking band can cost up to 100 points while the other three sit high and earn you nothing extra. Foreign work experience pays nothing on its own, because it only scores in combination with language ability or Canadian experience, which is why ten years in India can add far less than people assume. And an accompanying spouse lowers your own maximums in every core factor, which is why the same person often scores higher single than partnered. The first of those is the one worth acting on: retaking a test to lift a single weak band is usually the cheapest points available to anybody.

A job offer no longer adds any CRS points. IRCC removed points for arranged employment on 25 March 2025, and the change was not a reduction but a removal. Job offers previously added 50 or 200 points depending on the occupation, and those numbers still appear across a great deal of advice and in most third-party calculators, so a score you were quoted before that date, or by a tool that has not been updated since, is scoring you against a grid that no longer exists. The gap can be 200 points, which is the difference between a competitive profile and an irrelevant one. A valid job offer can still matter for provincial nomination streams and for eligibility under some programs. It simply adds nothing to your CRS total any more. If a calculator is still offering you 200 points for one, stop using it.

An estimated score is what this calculator returns when you have not sat a language test yet. In place of real results you choose a rough CLB level, and the calculator scores that level as a stand-in, then marks the whole result as an estimate with a tilde on the score and a dashed mark on the plot. The marking is deliberate rather than decorative. A self-assessed level is not a certified test result, people routinely place themselves a band above where they test, and language sits in three of the four scoring blocks, so the real figure can move a long way once official bands arrive. Treat an estimate as a direction rather than a number. Enter your actual IELTS, CELPIP, PTE, TEF or TCF results and the estimate becomes a firm figure you can plan against.

This calculator implements the official IRCC grid, including the two caps most third-party calculators miss: the 50-point cap on each of the two skill-transferability groups, and the 600-point cap on additional points. Those two omissions are why the same profile scores differently on different websites, usually higher on the ones selling you something, and why people arrive at a consultation with a number that was never real. Accuracy here means the arithmetic matches the published grid rather than that the result is binding. It is an estimate for planning, and it is meant to tell you where you stand and what would move you. The score computed inside your own Express Entry profile is the one that governs, and only a complete profile, with an educational credential assessment and valid test results, produces it.
