Rules change constantly, and most of the trouble people get into comes from acting on one that changed last month. Every story here links to the government's own announcement, so you can check it yourself.

IRCC froze the list of fields of study that qualify for a post-graduation work permit, in its words "for 2026". It has committed to nothing beyond that year, which makes a January 2027 intake a bet nobody is naming.

A temporary measure announced on 9 September 2026 lets work permit holders in Canada study for up to six months, or until their permit ends, without applying for a study permit. In effect until 31 December 2027. Full-time study still needs one.
The 16 October consultation report sets out what IRCC proposes to do to the CRS next: merge the three federal high-skilled programmes, remove the 15 points for a sibling in Canada, remove the spousal grid worth up to 40, and reconsider the French and Canadian-study points. Proposed, not law, and no date.
IRCC will recalculate every profile in the pool when the labour market integration factor starts on 3 November 2026, and it says invitation rounds are paused while that happens. A gap in the draws after that date is the rescoring, not the programme closing.
The 2027-2029 Immigration Levels Plan is due between 2 and 6 November 2026. The targets it will confirm or revise are already published in the annex to the 2025 Annual Report: 380,000 permanent residents and 370,000 new temporary residents.
From 3 November 2026 Express Entry awards up to 150 CRS points for Canadian work experience or a qualifying job offer in a high-wage occupation, and a job offer no longer needs an LMIA. The full 186-occupation list, and what is missing from it.
IRCC published a backgrounder on 16 October 2026 setting out a labour market integration factor worth up to 150 CRS points, and removing the LMIA requirement for a qualifying job offer. It takes effect on 3 November 2026.
IRCC paused intake to the Parents and Grandparents Program on 15 July 2026 and will not take new interest to sponsor forms or invite sponsors until further notice. Applications already in the system are still being processed, which is why many families believe the programme is open.

Where these come from
Every story is written from the government's own announcement rather than somebody else's report of it, and that announcement is linked at the foot of it. Most stories tell you what changed and stop. Where one also says what it means for your own application, a licensed consultant has written that part and put their name to it.
