Express Entry · The November pause

Why the draws stop in November, and when they come back

IRCC is rescoring the entire pool on 3 November 2026 and has said rounds are paused while it does. If you refresh the draw page in November and nothing is there, this is almost certainly why.

Read and checked by Jay Sharma, Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant R710507, licensed by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants. Figures verified 19 October 2026. Quoted from IRCC's own page for this change rather than paraphrased, because the point of this page is that it is not guessing.

The short answer

Express Entry invitation rounds are paused from 3 November 2026 while IRCC recalculates the score of every profile already in the pool, and IRCC says that could take up to two weeks. A gap in the draws after that date is the rescoring, not the programme closing and not your profile being passed over. There is nothing to resubmit, and a profile does not expire because a round was missed.

IRCC's own words, so you can stop reading guesses

The system will recalculate points in existing profiles when the changes take effect, which could take up to two weeks. During this time we'll pause invitation rounds and will start again when it's complete.

That is the whole of what has been said. There is no announced restart date, no announced order in which categories resume, and no statement that any category is being dropped. Anyone quoting you a specific date in November is reading the same sentence you have just read.

What a quiet fortnight does not mean

  • It does not mean Express Entry is closing. The programme is being rescored, not withdrawn, and IRCC has said rounds restart when the recalculation finishes.
  • It does not mean your profile has lapsed. Profiles run for twelve months from submission and a missed round has no effect on that clock.
  • It does not mean you were passed over. Nobody is invited during a pause, so there is no cut-off you failed to reach.
  • It does not mean you should create a second profile. Two profiles for one person is a problem to fix, not a way to be seen twice.

The one thing that is time-limited

Job offer points are not recalculated for you, because IRCC cannot score information that is not in your profile. If you hold a qualifying job offer in a high-wage occupation, the details have to be in the profile before 3 November 2026, and it is worth up to 100 points. How to enter it while the form still asks for an LMIA number.

What the pause is worth doing with

A fortnight with no rounds is the only predictable quiet period this system has, and the scores coming out the other side will be different from the ones that went in. The useful question is not when the next round is. It is which door your profile reaches once everyone has been rescored.

IRCC has run 451 rounds since January 2015, and the cut-off in each one is simply the score of the last candidate let in. Rescoring the pool moves that number because it moves the people, not because the bar was raised. Check your own score against the last twelve months of real rounds and see which category you are actually competing in.

Common questions

Why has there been no Express Entry draw?

If the gap falls after 3 November 2026, the most likely answer is the recalculation rather than anything closing. IRCC is changing how the Comprehensive Ranking System awards points for Canadian work experience and job offers on that date, and in its own words the system "will recalculate points in existing profiles when the changes take effect, which could take up to two weeks. During this time we'll pause invitation rounds and will start again when it's complete." Nothing about your profile needs to be resubmitted while that happens, and a profile does not expire because a round was missed.

How long will the Express Entry pause last?

IRCC says the recalculation could take up to two weeks and has not committed to a date for the first round afterwards. Two weeks from 3 November 2026 would mean rounds resuming in the second half of November 2026, but that is arithmetic on IRCC's own ceiling rather than a date IRCC has given. Treat any specific restart date you see quoted elsewhere as a guess until a round actually appears in the rounds of invitations feed.

Does my CRS score change automatically on 3 November?

Your score is recalculated automatically for eligible Canadian work experience, including the new high-wage addition, with nothing for you to do. Job offer points are the exception: IRCC cannot award points for information that is not in your profile, so a candidate holding a qualifying job offer must enter the job offer details before 3 November 2026. A job offer in a high-wage occupation is worth up to 100 CRS points from that date, and an LMIA is no longer required for it to count.
