What happens if you overstay a Dubai visit visa
The short answer
Overstaying a UAE visit visa carries a fine that accrues for every day you remain. The UAE government's own portal does not publish a daily rate: it directs you to check your own record on GDRFA Dubai or ICP, because the amount depends on your file. Checking is free, the service runs 24/7 online, and paying it is what lets you leave.

There is no published daily rate
The official portal’s Visa fees and fines page was updated on 13 July 2026. On overstaying it says that there is a fine, and then it links you to the fines inquiry services at GDRFA Dubai and ICP so you can look up your own record. It publishes no daily figure at all.

That is not evasiveness on the government’s part. The amount owed depends on the visa, the dates and the file, and a lookup gives you the real figure where a published rate would only give you an estimate you would then have to check anyway.

Work out which authority issued your visa
A visa issued through Dubai is GDRFA Dubai. A federally issued one is ICP. If you are unsure, check GDRFA first, since a Dubai visit visa is the common case for an Indian tourist.

Search by passport number, Emirates ID or file number on GDRFA's fines inquiry page. There is no charge for looking.
Pay through the official channel
GDRFA's Fine Collection for Violators of Residency Law service takes the payment. Digital channels run 24/7, and Amer centres handle it in person during their opening hours.
Keep the receipt
It is the document that answers the question the next time you apply for anything in the UAE.
Why the numbers online disagree
Every article on this subject quotes a daily figure, and they do not match each other. The reason is that the rate has been changed and unified more than once in recent years, each change was widely reported, and the reporting outlived the accuracy.
Treat any quoted daily rate as unverified
This includes the figure most widely repeated for 2026. It is consistent across a dozen travel and law-firm sites and it appears on neither the UAE government portal, nor GDRFA, nor ICP. It may well be right. It is not something we will print as fact under our own name when a free lookup gives you the actual number in under a minute.
The practical consequence of the disagreement is worth naming. If you budget for a number you read somewhere and it is wrong, you find out at a counter with a flight to catch. If you look up your own record, you know.
Leaving the UAE with a fine
An overstay is a violation of the law on entry and residency of foreigners, and the fine is settled rather than waived away at the gate. Two things make the difference between an errand and an ordeal.

Every specific daily rate you will read online comes from somewhere other than the government, which is why they disagree with each other.
How do I check my UAE overstay fine?
Use the fines inquiry service on the GDRFA Dubai website for a Dubai-issued visa, or ICP for a federal one, and search by passport, Emirates ID or file number. The service is free to use and available around the clock. Do this before you go to the airport rather than after you reach the counter, because the amount is what determines how long your departure takes.
Is there a grace period on a UAE visit visa?
Grace periods have changed more than once in recent years, and the government portal no longer states one for visit and tourist visas. Assume the fine starts running the day your permitted stay ends, and check your own record rather than relying on a grace period someone described in a blog post. The check costs nothing.
Can I leave Dubai with an unpaid overstay fine?
Not comfortably. Overstaying is a violation of the entry and residency law and the fine has to be settled, which is exactly what GDRFA's Fine Collection for Violators of Residency Law service exists to do. It carries no service fee of its own: you pay the violation fine and nothing on top. Settling it before you travel turns an airport problem into an errand.
Does an overstay affect a future UAE visa?
It goes on your immigration record, which is the part that outlasts the money. A cleared fine and a short overstay is a different conversation from an unpaid one or a long one, and it is worth being able to say the fine was settled when you next apply. If you are already in that position, say so on the next application rather than hoping it does not surface.
