Canada Visitor Visa

Last updated June 2026

A Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), commonly called a Canada Visitor Visa, lets a foreign national enter Canada for tourism, visiting family, or business meetings. It is stamped into the passport and does not grant permission to work or study in Canada.

Don’t risk a refusal. One small mistake in your forms can lead to a rejection or ban. Get your file reviewed by an RCIC before you apply. Our founder holds active RCIC License #R710507, meaning we are legally authorized to represent you before IRCC. Unlicensed agents carry no such accountability.

Who can apply?

  • Valid passport with at least 6 months validity beyond intended travel
  • Sufficient proof of funds to cover the trip
  • Strong ties to home country (job, property, family) showing intent to return
  • No prior immigration violations or inadmissibility grounds
  • Invitation letter from a Canadian host, if visiting family or friends
  • Clean travel history strengthens the application (not mandatory)

Common reasons for rejection

Insufficient or unclear proof of funds

Bank statements do not clearly show enough money to cover the trip and the return journey.

Weak ties to home country

The officer is not convinced you will leave Canada by the end of your authorised stay. Job, property, and family ties matter here.

Unclear or inconsistent purpose of visit

The invitation letter, itinerary, or stated reason for travel does not line up with the rest of the application.

Incomplete application or missing documents

A required form, translation, or supporting document is missing or inconsistent.

Immigration history concerns

Past overstays, refusals, or violations, in Canada or elsewhere, raise questions the application does not address.

Required documents

This is a general list. Additional documents may be required based on your specific profile after consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the visa validity mean I can stay in Canada the whole time?

No. Validity (up to 10 years, or until your passport expires) is how long the visa can be used to enter Canada. Each individual stay is still capped separately, typically up to 6 months, as marked by the border officer on arrival.

Can I apply again after a refusal?

Yes. There is no formal appeal for a visitor visa refusal, but you can reapply, ideally after addressing the specific reasons listed in your refusal letter with new or stronger evidence.

Do I need a confirmed return flight ticket to apply?

A confirmed return ticket is not mandatory, but a tentative itinerary showing your intended travel dates strengthens the application.

How soon can I travel after applying?

Only after the visa is approved and stamped in your passport. Booking non-refundable flights before a decision is not recommended.

What if my passport has less than 6 months of validity left?

Renew your passport before applying. IRCC generally expects at least 6 months of validity beyond your intended travel dates.
