Overview
What is the Japan visitor visa?
The short answer
Indian passport holders need a visa for Japan, and since 1 April 2024 a single-entry tourist visa can be issued electronically through the JAPAN eVISA system rather than as a sticker. The government fee is ₹500 for an Indian national, single or multiple entry, which is what Japan charges India under a bilateral arrangement while other nationalities pay ₹8,650. Through us it is ₹5,500 all-inclusive. Business, multiple-entry and longer stays are still decided by the embassy as a sticker visa.

Eligibility
Who can apply?
- You hold an ordinary Indian passport. The eVISA route is open only to ordinary passports.
- The trip is tourism, and you want a single entry of up to 90 days, if the eVISA is to be an option at all.
- You are applying no earlier than three months before travel, which is the earliest the embassy accepts.
- You have a day-by-day plan of what you will do in Japan, because the Schedule of Stay is a required form and not a formality.
- Your bookings, your itinerary and your stated dates agree with one another.
- You can fund the trip, evidenced by bank statements and income proof rather than a balance alone.

What goes wrong
What actually sinks a Japan file?
The patterns we see on real files, not a generic list. Each is where a file dies quietly, paired with what we do so yours does not.
Arriving with a screenshot of your eVISA
Japan requires the eVISA "Visa issuance notice" to be displayed at the airport in an internet environment, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says plainly that PDF data, screenshots and printed copies will not be accepted. Every instinct a careful traveller has is to save a copy offline, and every one of those copies is the wrong thing to hold up at the counter.
We make sure you can log in and load the live notice before you leave for the airport, and that you know the account details rather than us holding them. A visa you cannot display is the same as no visa on the day.
A Schedule of Stay that says "sightseeing"
Japan asks for a day-by-day schedule and reads it against your hotel bookings and flights. Vague entries are the most common avoidable weakness in an Indian application, because they suggest the trip has not really been planned and, in the worst reading, that it is not the real purpose. A schedule that puts you in Osaka on a night your hotel booking is in Tokyo is worse still.
We build the schedule from the trip you are actually taking, and we reconcile it against every booking before it is filed, so the document supports the application instead of undermining it.
A refusal locks you out for six months, with no reason given
Japan does not disclose why it refused you, and it will not accept another application for the same purpose within six months of the refusal. There is no appeal to lodge and no officer’s note to answer. Compared with almost every other visa on this site, the cost of getting it wrong is measured in seasons rather than weeks.
We treat a Japanese file as one attempt, because that is what it is. Where a profile is genuinely weak, we say so before you spend the fee, and we would rather delay an application by a month than spend your six months on it.
Applying more than three months ahead
The embassy accepts applications from three months before the travel date and not before. People organise early, submit in good time by any normal standard, and have the application declined on timing rather than on merit.
We work backwards from your travel date and file inside the window, early enough for the processing band and late enough to be accepted at all.
Paying someone a large "embassy fee"
The Japanese government fee for an Indian national is ₹500, single or multiple entry. The embassy also warns openly about fraud, and states that the only things you should be paying are the visa fee and the published service charge. An invoice with a four-figure government fee on it is describing something that does not exist.
We show you the two real numbers, the ₹500 government fee and the VFS service charge, and our own fee separately, so you can see which part of the price is ours.

Who handles your file
Named, and accountable
For Japan we act as consultants rather than as authorised representatives, because no equivalent licence exists to hold; the RCIC designation is Canadian. That does not lower the bar: your file is prepared and checked by Jeet Kacha, who runs our India operations, and the firm signs the verification rather than pointing at a licence that does not apply here.

Japan: questions people actually ask
How much does a Japan visa cost for Indian citizens?
The Japanese government fee is ₹500 for an Indian national, whether the visa is single or multiple entry, under the rates in force from 1 July 2026. That figure is correct and it surprises everyone who reads it, so it is worth saying why. Nationals of other countries pay ₹8,650 for a single entry and ₹17,350 for a multiple, which means the low Indian rate is a bilateral concession rather than a general price, and it is not an error on this page. VFS charges its own service fee on top of the government fee. Through us the cost is ₹5,500 all-inclusive, with courier of the passport charged separately at cost. Japan is the cheapest visa on this site by a wide margin, and the work in a Japanese application is in the documents rather than the money.
Can Indians get a Japan eVisa?
Indian passport holders can get a Japan eVISA for tourism. India has been on the JAPAN eVISA system since 1 April 2024, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists India among the countries that apply through an accredited agency rather than directly on the eVISA website, so the route exists but it is not one you use alone. The eVISA covers a single-entry short-term stay for tourism of up to 90 days, and only for ordinary passport holders. Everything outside that description still goes the old way: business trips, multiple-entry visas and longer stays are issued as a sticker in your passport by the embassy or consulate. Work out which of the two you need before you start, because the document sets differ and the eVISA route cannot be converted into the other halfway through. Most family holidays fall on the eVISA side.
Can I print my Japan eVisa?
You can print it, but the printout will not be accepted, and this is the single most common way a Japanese eVISA goes wrong at the airport. Japan requires the visa issuance notice to be displayed in an internet environment at check-in, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states specifically that PDF data, screenshots and printed copies are not accepted. What that means in practice is that you have to be able to log in and load the live notice on a phone at the counter. So carry the account details, keep the password somewhere you can reach it, and make sure you will have a working connection at the airport you are departing from. A charged phone and a roaming plan are part of the document set on this route, which is not a sentence anyone expects to read.
How long does a Japan visa take from India?
About five working days at the embassy once the application reaches it, though the Embassy of Japan in India warns that processing times vary significantly with volume and that applications cannot be expedited or prioritised for anyone's travel schedule. There is no premium service and no way to ask, however close the trip is. Add the time for VFS to send the file across and return the passport afterwards, which is not part of the five days and is the piece people forget when they count backwards from a departure date. There is a limit at the other end too, and it is tighter than most routes: applications are only accepted from three months before your travel date. So the usable window is narrower than it looks, and the sensible time to lodge is around six to eight weeks out.
What is a Schedule of Stay for a Japan visa?
It is a required form giving a day-by-day account of what you will do in Japan and where you will be, and it is read against your flight and hotel bookings rather than on its own. It is the document Japanese applications most often fall down on. Entries like sightseeing tell the officer nothing, and a schedule that contradicts your bookings raises a question the officer has no way to ask you about, because there is no interview and no request for clarification. The file simply gets decided on what is in front of them. So the schedule has to be specific, plausible for the distances involved, and consistent with every date and city in the rest of the application. We draft it from the trip you are actually taking rather than from a template, which is the only way it survives being cross-checked.
What happens if my Japan visa is refused?
You are not told why. Japan does not disclose the grounds for a visa refusal, and immigration dispositions are exempt from the usual duty to give reasons under Article 3 of the Administrative Procedure Act, so there is no letter to read and nothing to answer. You also cannot reapply for the same purpose within six months of the refusal. There is no appeal. Put those together and the practical position is that a Japanese application is a single attempt, and the cost of a weak one is half a year rather than another fee. That is why the preparation matters more here than on routes where a refusal can be corrected and refiled within weeks. Get the schedule, the bookings and the financial evidence consistent before the file goes in, because there is no second look and no explanation to work from.
