Georgia visitor visa from India

It depends on what else you hold, and this is the first thing to check rather than the last. If you have a valid visa or residence permit from the United States, the United Kingdom, an EU or Schengen country, or a Gulf state, you can enter Georgia without a Georgian visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. If you do not, you need a Georgian e-Visa, which you apply for at evisa.gov.ge and which allows a stay of up to 30 days. The gap between those two positions is money and sixty days of permission, so working out which one applies to you is worth doing before you pay for anything. A great many Indians travelling to Georgia already hold a qualifying document from an earlier trip and pay for an e-Visa they did not need.

Travel insurance has been mandatory for Georgia since 1 January 2026. Government of Georgia Decree No 602 of 26 December 2025 requires every foreign tourist to hold health and accident insurance of at least 30,000 GEL, about US$11,000, covering the entire period of stay. Within that total, at least 5,000 GEL must cover emergency outpatient treatment and 30,000 GEL hospitalisation. The policy can be from a Georgian or a foreign insurer, so an Indian policy is acceptable, but it must be written in Georgian or English and it can be shown either on paper or on screen at the border. Border officers do check it, and they can refuse entry to someone who cannot produce it. This is recent enough that plenty of older guidance about Georgia does not mention insurance at all, which is why it is worth confirming your cover meets the figures rather than assuming any travel policy will do.

The consular fee is US$20 and a separate US$15 charge covers the mandatory online identity verification, so about US$35 in government charges, roughly ₹3,330. Through us it is ₹5,900 all-inclusive. Before you pay any of it, check whether you qualify to enter Georgia visa-free on a visa or residence permit you already hold, because that route costs nothing at all and gives you 90 days rather than 30. It is the rare case where the honest advice is that you may not need us, and it is worth two minutes of your time to find out. If you do need the e-Visa, budget for the insurance as well, which has been mandatory since the start of 2026 and is checked at the border. Those three items together are the real cost of the trip's paperwork.

It is the online identity verification step in the Georgian e-Visa process, and it has a deadline that catches people out. After you apply and pay, you are emailed a link that must be completed within 24 hours. Failure to complete it inside that window rejects the application automatically, with no warning and no second email. It is the most common way an otherwise correct Georgian application fails, and the reasons are mundane rather than technical: the email can arrive overnight while you are asleep, or land in a spam folder, or reach an address you check twice a week. So the practical advice is to apply at a time of day when you will be at your phone for the next few hours, whitelist the sender beforehand, and check spam within the first hour rather than the next morning.

Up to 30 days, taken within a validity of 120 days from the date the visa is issued. Those are two separate numbers and both matter: the visa is usable for four months, but the stay inside it is one. The 90-day figure that appears in most articles about Georgia belongs to the visa-free arrangement for holders of US, UK, EU, Schengen and Gulf documents, and it does not apply to the e-Visa at all. The two get mixed up constantly, including on pages that are otherwise accurate, because both numbers are true of Georgia and neither is labelled clearly. Booking a longer trip than your permission allows creates an overstay, and an overstay is not a Georgian problem that stays in Georgia. It follows you into later applications to other countries, where it is one of the few things every officer reads the same way.

A Georgian tourist e-Visa does not permit employment. The ordinary short-stay category the tourist e-Visa is issued under does not permit employment. Business activity beyond attending meetings needs a different category, and any long-term stay or work needs a D category immigration visa applied for separately and before you travel. Georgia is often described as an easy country for remote workers, and that reputation is doing real damage, because it leads people to assume the tourist route covers more than it does. The friendliness of the entry rules is not the same as permission to earn while you are there, and the two get collapsed into one idea in most of what is written about the country. If the plan involves working from Georgia for more than a holiday's length of time, the question to research is which category permits it, not whether anyone is likely to check.
